McLean Clinics 2008

The AEBC training system

Andrew working with Ant and MichelThe AEBC training system developed by Andrew and Manuela McLean is relevant for both horse and rider, across all levels; ranging from foundation training (breaking-in), right up to FEI level dressage. It applies to every equestrian discipline, from pony club to polo, racing and show jumping, and the principles apply to all situations, whether it's learning to lead in-hand, float (trailer-load) and shoe calmly, jump obstacles obediently, calmly and straight, turn effectively, come-up on command, or perform challenging tricks.

The emphasis in all aspects of training is on relaxation, attentiveness and self-carriage. The AEBC approach is unique in that it combines classical training with a strong emphasis on scientific understanding of animal psychology and horse behaviour.

Clinics at AEBC

Michel learning stuffClinics at AEBC focus on teaching riders to train their horses following the principles of learning theory. Whether you have a horse that is obedient or one that demonstrates behavioural problems, you learn how to improve your training. Riders who attend clinics at AEBC have 2 group lessons per day with a theory session in between. This clinic format offering 2 lessons per day gives riders the opportunity to practice applying the aids correctly. The clinics serve 2 purposes; not only training horses but more on day two he conducted a group ground work session which was most beneficial to all participants including 2 young horses that are just being started under saddle by Warwick. All riders were able to experience the importance and benefits of groundwork in improving their horses’ obedience under saddle. Warwick continued his “work in progress” on 2 young horses he started breaking-in (foundation training) in July last year.

Andrew and Warwick McLean at Il Cadore

Andrew trainingWhen Andrew and Warwick McLean came to Il Cadore in March we were able to experience a bit of the AEBC on the Central Coast. On day one, Andrew provided a most informative seminar on “Overshadowing” and on day two he conducted a group ground work session which was most beneficial to all participants including 2 young horses that are just being started under saddle by Warwick. All riders were able to experience the importance and benefits of groundwork in improving their horses’ obedience under saddle.

Warwick continued his “work in progress” on 2 young horses he started breaking-in (foundation training) in July last year.
